De Biasi Murano

            The De Biasi Murano Company is a family-owned glass factory that was established by Virgilio De Biasi in Murano, in 1947.  Since the 1990’s, Mr. De Biasi’s two sons, Andrea and Cristiano, have also been working with him in their business.  The family uses specialized techniques that they themselves researched, and which they continue to develop and refine.  They infuse gold and other precious enamels into Murano glass, creating unique, very beautiful and wonderfully imaginative jewelry and other glass items.  They take special pride in producing what they poetically describe as “wearable glass pieces.”  The rich, deep colors of the glass they produce, their artistic integration of various colors, and their use of authentic gold and silver leaf accents impart a richness to their jewelry pieces that make them truly distinctive and delightful.

            The De Biasi Murano Company is a recognized member of the Promovetro Association, which retains the exclusive rights for awarding the “Murano Artistic Merit Trademark.”   

            Each item from the De Biasi Company bears the stamp of Artistic Murano Glass, which certifies provenance of the article. 

Gabriella Nanni

Gabriella Nanni is a jewelry artist residing in Florence, Italy.  She designs and creates her own distinctive lines of jewelry, taking great delight in creating one-of-a-kind pieces. 

The “Disegni di Luce” line features pure Murano glass beads which are made especially for Gabriella by master glass blowers in Murano.  She has them fuse gold or platinum leaf into the glass, and also murrine.  With the unusual designs and color effects thus achieved, Gabriella seeks to continue telling the marvelous story of this exquisite glass and its artists.  Gabriella sets the beautiful Murano glass beads into 925 sterling silver, bringing about “a very special contemporary and antique feeling.” 

Included in Nanni’s “Disegni di Luce” line of Murano glass jewelry are the following collections: 

            Vetro Sommerso:  richly colored beads of thick Murano glass

 Vetro Onde:  Murano glass beads designed to replicate “tiger eyes”

  

 Vetro Sushi:  Murano glass beads, gray in color, highlighted with a single enamel stripe

 

Vetro Demucha:  Murano glass beads, deeply colored

 

Vetro Murrina:  Murano glass beads, with traditional millefiore 

 

Eclisse:  This collection, aptly named with the Italian word for "eclipse", features red and pink, or blue and light blue color combinations.  The infused colors seemingly surround each other.

Gabriella’s “Storie di Mare” (“Stones of the Sea”) collection features coral, sea stones, sea pearls, shells and fossil shells, which the artist loves to collect whenever she goes to the sea.  She places these beautiful gifts of nature into silver settings, thus creating signature pieces of stunning jewelry.

In describing her philosophy as an artist, and her artistic designs, Gabriella simply states: 

"We design jewelry which contains the feelings and personalities of those who wear it.  We have no trend because we go beyond the 'trend'... This jewelry belongs to one like something that is just part of them and therefore it is timeless.  It is not old and it is not new.  There is a sort of subtle and deep identification with the times we live in."
